7052533

Synopsis
Book One of the award-winning Stormwalker series.

Half-Navajo Janet Begay possesses extraordinary power that is tied to the storms that waft across the desert.

The only person who can control her when she's caught in the storm's evocative power is Mick, a dark-haired, blue-eyed biker Janet can't seem to touch with her powers. He can wield fire and not get burned, and Janet's never sure where he goes when they're not together.

Together she and Mick investigate mysterious disappearances, which Janet fears are tied to her mother's people, the mythical gods from beneath the earth. They are helped along the way by Coyote and Crow, but these shapeshifting gods have their own agendas.

Review
Great read-action paranormal. It's a Coyote story, so of course I loved it! But beyond that, it's beautifully written. The plot is page turning and the setting is warmly evocative of the Southwest areas near the Navajo Reservation. The characters are rich and sometimes quirky. You've got to love the magic mirror with lust on its mind, Sheriff Nash who is so rigidly determined to remain an unbeliever, and of course there's Coyote...

The heroine has issues that make 'Mommy, Dearest' look like the Waltons. Her mother is an evil Goddess from Beneath [don't worry if you don't know anything about the myths, legends, and religious beliefs of the Southwest - the author does a fantastic job of providing the information without sounding like you're reading from the Cliff Notes] who wants out into our world. To accomplish this, she takes over young women who move too close to a vortex and sends them out to find a sperm donor for the purpose of creating a child she will then control. So far only one child has been successfully born [that we are aware of] - our heroine, Janet, who has no intention of being controlled.

The hero is Mick who has many secrets, secrets that upset the heroine's world when she finally learns them...

The are several subplots in addition to Janet vs the Goddess - Janet is looking for a missing girl, a dead body shows up in her basement, and she's renovating the shell of an old hotel to open as a business. I really enjoyed it.

FYI 'A Little Night Magic' concerns Jamison Kee and Coyote - good story though it's not important to read it first.

REVIEW!!! Beneath The Broken Moon (Part 1) - Sarah Makela

Beneath the Broken Moon: Part One (Broken, #1)

BUY NOW

BENEATH THE BROKEN MOON – SARAH MAKELA

Beneath the broken moon is a great read and a nice introduction into the characters. For the broken moon series I would have liked more information as to how the moon broke, why and what happened after.
Carmela Santiago is a female werewolf and in this time frame females are needed for breeding as the race is becoming extinct. Her abusive A**hole of a father has a fellow shifter chosen to be her mate she is not at all in favor of this.

While out with her cousin, hunters attack the movie theater while escaping she is shot and rescued by a vampire Derek Ashmore. Has she gone from bad to worse as werewolves and vampires are sworn enemies. She agrees to go on a date with the man that her father chose. Who seems to be a kind and caring man (werewolf) Brendan Kelly he is not at all what she is expecting. Will this sexy vampire be the end of Carmela’s heart or will she settle for the man her father has chosen for her?

As this is not set in our timeline I felt some more back ground information would have been helpful to clarify what has happened and how they arrived at how they have reached where they are.
Having received this ARC for an honest review. I would recommend this as a good read. I look forward to reading part 2 to see how the rest of the story takes us.

ShutterGirl Book Trailer:

Blurb

ONE movie star on the cusp of greatness
ONE broken girl who touched him
TEN years to forget her
A MILLION stories in Hollywood

I am not hurt.

I don’t need a second chance with him, or a life I thought I had.

While he was out forgetting me to become a movie star, I was building a career out of nothing. A career as a paparazzi, but a career. For a foster kid who bounced around every home in Los Angeles, that wasn’t easy.

This camera is all I have.

He’s nothing to me. Every time I take his picture and sell it, I remind myself that I did it all without him or his approval, his cinnamon smell or his clear green eyes. He lights up the screen like a celestial body, but he’s nothing but a paycheck to me.

He can throw my camera off a balcony, and nothing has to change. We can stay king and queen of the same city, and different worlds.

Except this is Hollywood, and here, anything can happen.

Excerpt

I stroked his hair, waist deep in peace, all worry gone for the moment, and floating in no more than an ocean of gratitude. I must have been more vulnerable than I realized, or he’d reopened some wound with his kindness, because though my sweet reverie stayed, as the minutes passed, a layer of need fitted itself on top of it.
I needed to tell him, if not the details, the outlines of who I was.
“I want you to know,” I whispered, starting somewhere small, then everything I didn’t want to say spilled out. “I have stuff. I’ve never been to jail, but you know, it’s stuff, and it’s ugly, and it scares me. Because, I mean, you’re so perfect, and I’m… I’m just a mess. I’m not whole. I’m a bunch of pieces of a person I cobbled together.” My eyes got wet when I thought of the comparisons between us and that picture in my silverware drawer. “So if you have to move on when you realize that, I’ll understand. You have an image, and if anyone understands protecting a career, it’s me. I mean, I’ll be mad, don’t get that wrong, but also.” I swallowed and blinked, shifting my head so he wouldn’t feel the tear on his forehead. “I won’t blame you.”
I waited for an answer. Anything. A change in position or a word on any subject. The weather. Sports. Something. But all he did was breathe.
I smiled so wide, tears fell into my mouth. He was sleeping.

Such poetry! I have to start by telling you this book is full of prose and beautiful imagery. And conflict. The conflict of interest is perfect. Paparazza and movie star. It doesn't look good for either of them! But they know each other from high school, albeit briefly, so doesn't that make a difference? Perhaps not. Her peers don't seem to like it and neither does her past when it comes barging in.

We know that 'conflict' drives a story forward, without it, the words would fall flat. I have to say I enjoyed the way these conflicts do move each element forward, and the growth of each character. Even secondary characters seem to grow and improve with the changing dynamics of the main characters. I love that they're completely mismatched -- their personalities and their jobs are just so opposite the other.

Mr Goody-Two-Shoes, Michael, who has never done anything to rock the boat, never done anything untoward and then there's Laine, who has skirted the law and walked a fine line in both her professional and personal lives.

If you're already a fan of CD Reiss at all, I'm sure you're going to love this too. If you haven't discovered her writing her, then what are you waiting for?! Dive right in, go and discover Hollywood through the eyes of a movie star and a paparazza!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

CD Reiss is a USA Today and Amazon bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up, she’s at the well, hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere, but it did embed TV story structure in her head well enough for her to take a big risk on a TV series structured erotic series called Songs of Submission. It’s about a kinky billionaire hung up on his ex-wife, an ingenue singer with a wisecracking mouth; art, music and sin in the city of Los Angeles.

Critics have dubbed the books “poetic,” “literary,” and “hauntingly atmospheric,” which is flattering enough for her to put it in a bio, but embarrassing enough for her not to tell her husband, or he might think she’s some sort of braggart who’s too good to give the toilets a once-over every couple of weeks or chop a cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

GIVEAWAY & NOTE FROM AUTHOR

I am so happy with the response to Shuttergirl, and I cannot wait to send Michael and Laine out into the world, because who doesn’t swoon over a second chance at love?

It’s a new genre for me, and I’m exploding with excitement, so I’ve dropped some fantastic reasons for readers to get the book right away.

TREAT YOURSELF LIKE A MOVIE STAR!

$500 Spa Gift Card

If you could get an hour, or ten away from the daily grind of paparazzi and interviews (or the job and kids), what would you do?

Get a foot rub/slash/pedicure? A massage? Maybe something called a Sleep Treatment that right now sounds better than sex?

Maybe you’d bring a friend or two, or maybe you’d just get a manipedi when you wanted one. Because the life of a megastar ain’t for the weak-willed or lazy, and running from paparazzi can really wear down a girl’s nails.

Woodhouse Spas are no joke. They’re all over the country and they’re….sigh. Fabulous. But if you don’t live near one, we can do Burke Williams, Halcyon Days or Red Door.

HOW TO ENTER

Take the fun SHUTTERGIRL READER QUIZ!

The link to the quiz is in the back of the book, and yes, that’s the ONLY place to find it! There are bonus questions relating to Jonathan and Antonio for extra prizes. You have until June 3rd to enter! That gives you a solid two weeks to read the book and get your chance at a $500 movie star spa treatment!

If you are a paperback reader, email me and we’ll work it out .

REVIEW!!! Some Like It Easy (Going Royal #5) - Heather Long

Some Like it Easy

SOME LIKE IT EASY (GOING ROYAL #5) – HEATHER LONG

Heather Long is a masterful storyteller whether in a contemporary romance such as this or if it’s in her shifter stories.

George Dagmar the youngest of the three Dagmar children is a privileged spoilt brat of a Prince. When he is kicked out of his college is surprised when his elder brother the Grand Duke Armand cuts off his finances. Forced to choose between the only three universities that will take him after, generous donation from his family. He settles for the University of New York.

George’s sister-in-law Penny also attends the same university and she is asked by her sister to keep an eye on our spoilt Prince.  Penny with the help of Mallory her roommate/ Best friend take pity on George and share their food, alcohol and coffee with him and spend a lot of their time with him. Penny and Georges friendship soon moves from friendship to romance. Along the way of our story George grows up and Penny actually matures, with the normal trials and tribulations affect their relationship.

I read this without the benefit of the other books which was fine but for maximum enjoyment I would recommend that you read the Going Royal series in order. This is my honest review after receiving the ARC for one. This is a book I would recommend to anyone who loves a good romance story.

I've have met some amazing woman on my journey so far, and have learned so much. (Sometimes the hard way.) I've been like a sponge soaking up all the information I can on how the publishing world works. It's been a rollercoaster ride with its ups and its downs.

No matter what, I will never regret anything I've done. You can't succeed if you don't try, and if you don't try you won't succeed. One of my favorite quotes "If the dream is big enough the facts don't matter".
Some other info about me, I love my family, friends, wine and anything caffeinated. I also love writing HEA. For the same reason I won't watch a movie that I know will make me cry, (with the exception of Steel Magnolias) I will never write a book without a HEA. There might be a few twists and turns, a cliffhanger or two. But ultimately my stories will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. For me, reading is entertainment, a way to escape this crazy insane world. If a book leaves me feeling sad, mad or gut wrenched, it is not for me. There is enough gut-wrenching sadness in this world, I don't need to read about it too.

I started writing four years ago, and have no plans on stopping. So keep your eye on me because with the help of some amazing people and my wonderful fans, this girl is going to be on the New York Times bestselling list someday.
