Raphael (Vampires in America #1) by D. B. Reynolds

Looking for your next hot vampire read?

I found the setting amusing – somehow the whole vampires hanging out in the ‘fun in the sun with the rich and infamous’ seems a bit incongruous. The author made it work.

In some ways this made me think of The Vampire Shrink by Lynda Hilburn. Raphael had the same feeling of ‘spooky cool’ that Devereux does. And his relationship with the heroine, Cyn, bubbles with the same intensity. Also, the politics of being the vampire Master swirl with murky shadows, ruthless power games, and death in the same way.

Cyn’s a great character. If she’d been locked in a tower she’d have cut off her OWN hair and climbed down – then gone looking for the witch.

Possible Spoiler:
This is the only book I’ve read in this series so I may be wrong but I have a feeling that the relationship between Raphael and Cyn is going to be the series arc because the situation is not resolved at the end of this one. The book plot has closure but the romance plot does not. It did give me enough that I will read the next one…
