Blood of the Rose (Embraced 1) by Anya Bast

793103

Synopsis:
Behind an illusion of folklore, the Embraced create a barrier between the Dominion and humankind. Penelope Coddington, wealthy daughter of upper class England, was marked at birth to take her rightful place within the ranks of the fully Embraced Vampir.

Aidan O'Shea, a working class Irishman on the Coddington Estate, is also marked. Class difference has kept Aidan and Penelope apart, but soon that will change. The Vampir will realize their birthrights and they will both belong to the same noble, blood-drenched line.

And that's good, because unless these two can come together, it's going to be hell on Earth.

Review:
The first in Anya Bast's Embraced series - a well written action oriented vampire paranormal. Bast brings her own 'twist' to the vamp thing by having 'second class' vamps who live off sex energy and the more powerful blood drinkers. Those humans turned but not born to be a vampire mostly end up as Demis. Vampires have evolved to protect humans by fighting the Dominion.

The Dominion are beings who live in another plane who normally 'haunt' the dreams of humans or possess humans so they can suck all the joy and love out of the individual's existence. At intermittent intervals they try to break through into our world and do it wholesale - and the latest effort is going to be in Gilded Age New York.

Bast does her usual outstanding job of introducing multiple fascinating characters with their own plots and then weaving them into the main plot.

I read the second book first - and frankly I should have started at the beginning. Order is important.

BENEATH THE BROKEN MOON #4 by SARAH MAKELA
Sarah Makela just keeps getting better with this series. Can vampire Dereck and the wolf Brendan both put aside their differences and both become Carmela lovers or will their jealousy make this impossible? The drama keeps happening in this broken world with the three warring factions the nocturnes, the vampires and the Cazadors. What will it take to mend this broken world? Sarah gives us villains that we can love to hate and heroes that are unexpected and convince us to hoping the problems will be solved.
Carmela, Dereck and Brendan get found out by all parties concerned the nocturnes, the vamps and the Cazadors. The vamp and the werewolves call a truce to try and solve this problem. How long will the truce last? Only Sarah Makela knows and I can’t wait to find out.

Dream Warrior: (Dark Warrior Alliance Book 1)

BUY NOW

Dream Warrior by Brenda Trim and Tami Julka

The only thing I found wrong with this story was that it ended. The good news is that there is another book. This is a page turning action packed romance. It had me on the edge of my seat from the first page until the last; if I didn't have to go to work I would not have put the book down until I finished it.
Elsie knows that evil stalks the night as her husband Dalton was killed by what she believes is a vampire. She joins a group SOVA (Survivors of vampire attack) to find and kill this terror of the night. What Elsie doesn't know is what she is hunting is a lot worse than vampires.
After a chance encounter with the Vampire King Zander at a dinner where she was going to get dinner. She instantly fell in lust but she is still being faithful to her dead husband 18 months after his death. She was never ever going to follow through on any of the feelings or impulses she had.
Once Zander realizes where he had first seen Elsie he gets some of his warriors who are also detectives to re-open the case and to see what they can discover. Her honeysuckle fragrance is enough to drive Zander crazy with desire. He finally realizes that she is the reason he has been unable to feed since that night that he saw her on the news and she is his mate. It has been 400 years since there has been a fated mate.
Elsie is too plagued by guilt to allow this to happen without a fight. Finally she realizes that she loves Zander but will it be too late?
I received this ARC for an honest review I can honestly say I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to anyone that likes the vampire stories.

The heartbeat which had attracted Keith D’Ameron to the city in the first place belongs to his opponent – and the secretive vampire finds that even three hundred long years on this earth have not prepared him for the depth of the desire Javier Estas arouses in him. Keith begins a sensuous and compelling courtship, intending to claim Javier Estas in every way for eternity. Will Javier turn away from all that he knows and follow the siren call of Keith’s seductive midnight eyes, or will he forever bury his undisclosed desire for this mysterious man who has turned his life upside down?

Excerpt from Undisclosed Desire by M. Peters:

Keith D’Ameron has wandered the world as a vampire for three hundred years, traveling through Europe and the East in search of something for which he has no name. Up until now, he has simply enjoyed what his world of the night can bring to him, but now he has come to Spain. Upon entering Seville, a heartbeat rises above the rest of the thrumming pulses occupying the busy city, and something in its siren call urges Keith to investigate.
The owner of this heartbeat, the vampire finds, is a beautiful young man named Javier Estas, and upon first sight – whether it is only for a night or for something more – Keith knows he must make the young man his own. Something in the scent of his blood, and the very thrum of the life in Javier’s verdant gaze, has drawn Keith to this man, and he is determined to find out why.

Within the hour, Keith finds himself at sword-point in a tree-lined square, where he must make a decision between keeping his secrets intact or allowing himself to open up to another human being for the first time in three centuries. Something within Javier’s eyes calls to him as nothing else has ever done, and he finds he must pursue this new avenue which has revealed itself to him in that dusty square where he faces Javier for the first time.
At first, Javier is hesitant, but Keith is not the only one lured on by something he cannot comprehend, and he finds himself captivated by the glimpses of Keith’s world he sees every time he falls into the vampire’s eyes. At last, he finds that he cannot continue to deny his undisclosed desire for Keith – and that he doesn’t want to keep trying.

REVIEW!! Blood Secrets (Valorian Chronicles1) by Vivi Anna

644541

“Think CSI with vampires, werewolves, etc.”

Synopsis
Caine Valorian and his Otherworld Crime Unit crack all the unusual cases before any humans take notice. When a young woman is found ritualistically murdered it's his team of professionals with paranormal gifts who must stop the nameless evil stalking the streets. But the toughest case of Caine's 200-year career gets even harder when a new member, Eve Grant, is assigned to their unit. Not only is she green and eager to impress, she's human.

As they sink deeper into the workings of the case, Caine's attraction to the alluring Eve is causing his blood to boil. And with war brewing between species, the all-consuming passion between a human and a vampire won't be the only thing to spill on the city's mean streets...

Review
The whole giving the Otherworlders their own [closely guarded] city smacks of apartheid but get past that and the story is a good one. It’s a fairly fast read.

I loved the characters, especially our hero, Valorian, who spends a lot of willpower trying to resist his attraction to Eve – after all, she’s new, she’s his subordinate, and she’s human. All these put her firmly on the ‘Do Not Touch’ list. Of course, we all know how well that’s going to work…

The plot has the same scientific nitty-gritty feel as the CSI shows, and the same blurring of the details so the non-science-oriented readers don’t fall asleep in their chairs. The crime is grim, the possible repercussions are dire for all concerned, especially the paranormal community, and the need for answers is urgent. This was my first read by this author and it won’t be the last

Vampires Need Not...Apply? (Accidentally Yours #4) by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

17333471

But It Here!

Synopsis:
This is book 4 in the New York Times and USA Today bestselling Accidentally Yours paranormal romance series.

Meet Dr. Antonio Acero. Heir to Spain's wealthiest family, world-renowned physicist, and dedicated bachelor. While on vacation in southern Mexico, Antonio discovers an ancient Mayan tablet. Local legends say it contains magical properties, properties that could put his stalling research on the map.

But is this really his lucky break?

When Antonio attempts to put the tablet to use, he'll discover that Fate has other plans. Her name is Ixtab, and she's quite possibly the deadliest deity who ever lived.

Review
I’m not sure how the author manages to produce consistently funny stories while dealing with issues like mass murder, torture, the end of the world and correct spelling of Mayan names but she does. I love the multiple viewpoints and frequently snarky dialogue!

This is book 4 of the series and I really can’t suggest starting here. Well, you could – the author does a fairly good job of giving you the basics of the backstory – but I can’t recommend it. There is WAY too much backstory to absorb; including the ins and outs of the various characters and how the plot has developed to the opening of this book. So back up to Accidentally in Love with...a God? and hop on the rollercoaster…

This series deals with the Mayan pantheon which is both a plus and a minus. The plus is it’s not peopled with the same Greco-Roman gods/goddesses/myths you learned about in seventh grade; the minus is the names are mentally tongue-twisting and the ‘specialties’ of the various gods are probably not familiar to the reader and frequently seem weird. For example: a major player in the story is Ixtab who we find out is the goddess of suicide. My contemporary, western sensibilities immediately kicked in with ‘Say what? Suicide needs its own goddess?’ And then there’s the whole who is related to whom issue in a ‘family’ group that puts the ‘dys’ in dysfunctional.

Like the other books in the series the immediate storyline is nicely tied up but the last page contains the requisite ‘oh my god’ teaser…

Needless to say I will be continuing this series.

The Accidentally Yours Series:
BOOK 1: Accidentally in Love with...a God?
BOOK 2: Accidentally Married to...a Vampire?
BOOK 3: Sun God Seeks...Surrogate?
BOOK 3.5: Accidentally...Evil? (a Novella)
BOOK 4: Vampires Need Not...Apply?
BOOK 4.5: Accidentally...Cimil?
BOOK 5: Accidentally...Over?
