AUTHOR LOWDOWN with Piper Kay

If you had to choose a tattoo for someone else to get, what would it be and who would be the victim?
How bad is it that I immediately thought of 'tattoos gone wrong' and my ex at the same time? Lol! I guess it would have to be for a friend of mine online. This lady is amazing, her name is Lauri James. I'd have to say it would be a cowboy boot, with flowers coming out of it and the words 'kicking ass and taking names' because she has waged a freaking war on cancer and she's doing exactly that.

Do you have a favourite author? Who is it/are they?
I have so many it's hard to choose, seriously. I love anything by Poppet. If you haven't read her, you have to. Also Rue Volley, she's a wonderful author and Kindle Alexander who is mega talented.

How did you start your writing career?
When I decided to write, I joined a writers group on fb with a couple of other ladies, because I was clueless on how to get started. I started watching certain authors and how they carried themselves, how they wrote, etc. It was incredible and I consider myself very blessed to have encountered some wonderful people who guided me in the right direction.

Which character was the hardest to write and why?
Definitely Serge (aka Sparks, Sparky) who first appears in Payce's Passion (book two of The Passion Series) He is a character within a character. Total scene stealer and hysterical. He's a bit hyperactive, full of energy and a total blast to write, even though it's exhausting. I'm writing him now for the third and final book in the series due out in December (that is if he doesn't cause me a heart attack first). He's so hard to write because his mind flips and flops like a fish out of water, you just never know what he's going to do or how he'll do it. He is definitely a handful.

If you write under an alias/Nome de plume, how do you deal with being addressed by that name?
It's not hard to deal with at all because it's who I really am. I'm really very blunt and outspoken, not to mention I curse like a sailor, write m/m romance/erotica romance/drama, act a little crazy, sometimes I'm a little shy, but it's all still just me. Most know it and are fine with it. They understand it all goes with the erotica part of writing and why it has to be done. There's always going to be that one person out there who hears 'erotica' or 'romance' and has to test the limits on what is appropriate or not. I'm not sure why and it is really rare, but it happens. It's happened to me several times, with women and men both.

How would you classify the genre you write? Why did you choose that genre?
I write m/m romance, erotica romance. I was dared by an author friend to give it a try so I did. In the writers group I first joined, they'd all told me that I wrote with a masculine tone to it. Just what a female wants to hear-hahaha. They said it was a little harsh, a lot raw, and extremely blunt. One day the m/m author dared me to try writing a short story and write it from a man's pov. To make it a HFN (happy for now) m/m story. I took that dare and was on a mission to at least give it a shot. That's where Twisted Cherry came from.

If you weren’t an author, what would you have ended up doing?
No idea at all to be honest. I was a stay at home mom before writing, so probably would still be doing that.

Do you have any rituals/habits when you write?
Not too much. I have to have music blasting, I have to be alone.

What would be the weirdest one?
To start a new book, I have to have everything spotless around me, the desk and the room. If not, when I stare out into space thinking about the plot line or what needs to happen, I'll spot it and it'll drive me insane until I fix it. I think I'm a bit ocd on it actually. Lol! I cannot write without caffeine or smokes.

Pimp yourself time - What is on your current and upcoming release schedule?
I just released book two in the Invicta Series, called Invicta: Sanctuary. It's a part of The Naughty Box 2 set that released a week ago. It will be available as a solo pretty soon though (couple months) and I also released book one in that series, Invicta: Salvation, the end of May. Now as far as what is coming up, I have the third book of Invicta coming in the first part of 2015, along with hopefully the other two books in the series. In December of this year, I have the final book in The Passion Series, called Passion's Pride due out. And just recently I had a new story come up and my hope is to get started on that one as well. (my plan is to have it out by next summer)

Where are your books available?
Anywhere. Amazon, nook, kobo, iTunes, Goodreads, Smashwords, etc. I have the Invicta books in the new Amazon lending program so I can see what is going on in that market as well.

(I should have a new website up and running soon, but it's still a work in progress right now. Once I get it set up, then I'll grab the domain name for it)
