REVIEW!!! Midnight Shift By Renee George (Midnight Shift/ Other Worlders Book 1)

Midnight Shift (novel)

BUY NOW

MIDNIGHT SHIFT BY RENEE GEORGE

Benie (Benoica) is a hunter of the other worlders anything from shifters, incubi or even vampires she is a female “hero” a real badass this is great to see for a change. She has trained all her life to hunt the “monsters”. She is lucky enough to have her best friend from childhood to help her. Ian is a doctor who examines the samples that Benie brings him back to see if he can find out more about the OW’s and why Benie is taking on the aspects of the OW’s that attack her  (this is what I can see happening if shifters and things that go bump in the night existed in our world).
After an encounter with a tracker Benie turns to an half ow for help and some answers. While she is there she falls for him without reason and is again attacked by a tracker. Trace Calder who is also a telepath. Benie is not able to be satisfied with just one mate she needs two but are Ian and Trace able to come to terms with this arrangement or will jealousy rip them apart?
Benie finds that her life to this point has been a lie she has been taught to hate the other worlders now she finds out that she is other worlder. Her biological father is the one sending out the trackers and wants her and her mates dead.
Renee George has written a gripping page turner. I was up all night until I had finished it I couldn’t put it down (much to hubbys disgust I kept him awake). This action packed, drama filled, and hot sizzling sex makes this a must to read. I was really rooting for the good guys in this story and was going through the fights with Benie blow for blow.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I was given this ARC for my honest review. My honest review is WOW!!!

REVIEW!! Undercover (Federation #1) by Lauren Dane

2916555

Synopsis:

A sexy debut exploring an erotic future universe of passion, danger, and deceit…

On the battleground or in the bedroom, one woman and two men fight for dominance in a bold, new, and excitingly different direction in erotica…

As a lieutenant of the Federation military, Sera Ayers is accustomed to giving orders, not taking them. Now she must obey the one man she can't stand-and can't stop thinking about.

With the enemy Imperialists gaining ground, a covert team is assembled by Ash Walker. Ten years before, Sera had lovingly submitted to Ash's dominance in the bedroom. But when he was forced into a political marriage, she refused to play mistress. His marriage now over, Ash wants Sera on his team-and back in his bed.

The third team member, Brandt Pela, has an elegance to match Ash's savage sexuality. And when their undercover plan requires Sera to pose as Brandt's lover, it ignites a passion among the three of them more dangerous than their mission.

Review:

Futuristic/SFR with a relationship driven plot.  I'm not saying there isn't action but much of it is sexual.  Since this is a ménage book, a great deal of time is spent on scenes exploring combinations of one, two and three partners.   [Despite the heroine assuring them she is okay with 'boy touching' - her words, not mine - the two guys are into her and not each other.  They are emotionally intimate, and there is an occasional kiss or caress - but it's on the way to what they really want, her.]  Contains some BDSM elements - bedroom submission, a few toys, spanking...

The book opens with the heroine, Sera, storming into her superior's office demanding to be sent back to her unit.  He refuses and introduces her to her new unit, Brandt Pela and Ash Walker.  She decks Ash, puts Brandt on the ground when he tries to block the door, and storms back out.  Eventually she is forced to listen - she has been assigned to work with these two in a covert intelligence unit - for reasons having to do with her skills, not her past with Ash.

Both Brandt and Ash are Ranked [think English aristocracy, especially before the introduction of the House of Commons.]  Ranked men are not supposed to do more than play around with unranked women.  Sera is unranked.  Ten years ago Sera and Ash were together and, she thought, deeply in love.  The shock when she found out he was engaged to be married and he asked her to be his official Mistress was devastating.  She left him, and any thought of love, behind.

The mission necessitates her being a 'mistress' to one of the men since the society they will be entering requires it and they need someone to spy at that level.  She refuses to have anything to do with Ash but agrees to do it with Brandt.  Circumstances [of the extremely obvious plot device variety] occur that require her to be the mistress of both of them...

The threesome work well together in the bedroom and on the mission.  They succeed in tracking down the traitors and bringing the proof back to their superiors, proof that rocks the comfortable world of the Ranked...

Ash wants her back - desperately.  The wife he was forced to marry divorced him seven years ago so he is now free, but as a second son he still cannot marry without his father's permission - permission that he could not get ten years ago and cannot get now.

Brandt had heard a great deal about Sera from his best friend and he falls deeply in love with her.  And his father is much more liberal than Ash's..

Sera learns about the realities of being Ranked and finally understands why Ash did what he did ten years ago.  She slowly begins to trust again, both Ash AND Brandt...

I enjoyed it - and moved on to the next book in the series. After Relentless the focus moves to the Phantom Corps [a special unit within the Federation, essentially a formalized version of the the covert ops team explored in Undercover]. I tried to ignore the cover - it's way too lingerie model for me!

Claiming Her Warriors (Lumineta 2) by Savannah Stuart

Synopsis:
Two brothers want to possess her…

After her planet was destroyed, Brianna was rescued by two fierce and desperately gorgeous warrior brothers. Aeron and Hauk. They want to keep her, protect her, mate her. But what the brothers wanted from her was too much to handle. Settling into a new culture was hard enough without dealing with the custom that dictates she mate with two males. So she pushed them away.

They’ll do anything to protect her…

An attack sends Brianna back into the arms of the sexy brothers. Now they'll do whatever it takes to win her over. But can Brianna go against the conventions of her human nature and accept both warriors as her mates? It might not matter because someone is out for blood and it’s up to Aeron and Hauk to defend her against a deadly enemy.

Review:
There are some familiar tropes here.  There’s ‘rescued from the end of the world’, ‘repopulate a foreign planet with hunky hero(es)’, and ‘you have to marry two guys, it’s the way we do things around here.’ That’s okay, I generally enjoy those and the author managed to handle them well.  I must admit I was hoping for some action [other than the kind involving horizontal and vertical surfaces] but this plot is mostly relationship driven.

The heroes, Hauk and Aeron, are the warriors mentioned in the title. They are brothers and both are tall, intimidating, and protective but moderately clueless about women [even though they had been married before.] I thought the heroine, Brianna, was bit of a wimp for someone who had been dealing with the end of life as she knew it just recently. She apparently has spent a great deal of time before the story opens waffling about the being with two guys part; although she is really into one of them she feels she doesn’t know the other. She finally decides to remedy that and get into the spirit of things when suddenly Aeron, guy number one, has an outbreak of jealousy sending her off into the night - where someone attacks her. The story continues while resolving the ongoing issues.

It’s a short read, more glorified short story than novella. The author does a pretty good job of reaching the HEA within that framework. I would read more of her work. (Note: Author also publishes as Katie Reus.)

Awakening the Warriors – Legends of the Seven Galaxies 1.5 by S. E. Gilchrist

 Buy It Here!

Synopsis:
Set in the world of the bestselling title Legend Beyond the Stars, an erotic novella about two warriors who have lost the ability to desire, and the human woman who is about to wake them up.

Fran must have been crazy to leave her ordinary, safe life and volunteer as a colonist to terra-form a new earth. Now she is trapped in a prison cell on an alien planet a zillion miles from home and bound for a hideous death in notorious research chambers.

She has one chance of escape: awaken the long dormant sexual urges of the Darkon Warriors shackled in the next cell.

It’s a desperate job, but someone has to do it.

Review:
This is a short story – both in length and time elapsed within the story line. There really isn’t any time to develop a relationship between the heroine and the two warriors who are the heroes. Maybe the Darkon race have one of those “oh yeah, that’s the one!” buttons but the heroine figures she’s just available – sort of a hook-up on the fly. We don’t know, it’s pretty much never discussed.

The story starts with our heroine stuck in a cell with a bunch of other, mostly non-human, females who are assuming they are in for a Bad End. Down the hall are several Darkon warriors the guards have been having a great time beating on. Some of the females tell her that sex can change these guys into supercharged warriors who can get them all out of there. Then they all look at her…

So she’s the one who sneaks out of the cell and into the one holding the Darkon. One of the three has succumbed to his injuries and the other two are pretty much beaten to a pulp. You can pretty much figure out what happens next – sex, escape, sex, rescue, etc. After the escape she keeps trying to leave – after all, they’re not really interested in her, right? Especially when she figures out that the two heroes are more than friends.

Then she sneaks off AGAIN – jumping into yet another dangerous situation and being rescued yet again. And finally they have a little talk…

It was an okay read-once, but I plan to check out Legend Beyond the Stars and see what the author can do with a full novel.

Playing Doctor (Meeting Men #1) by Kate Allure

 21996367

Synopsis:

The doctor will see you now…

Three sizzling-hot erotic romance stories to stoke your mood…

In The Intern, the temperature of Dr. Lauren Marks' office quickly rises when her new medical intern, Courtney, turns out to be a passionate and sexy young man.

Valerie realizes all of her fantasies when her sexy surgeon and her loving husband team up to offer her some extra-special treatment in My Doctor, My Husband, and Me.

Nikki gets more than she bargained for in Seize the Doctor when the hot guy she recently met at a bar walks into her exam room wearing a white coat. Good thing she wore her sexiest lingerie.

Review:

The emphasis here is on sex, not plot, and not characterization. So if that’s what you’re in the mood for it’s a great read. If you’re looking for a book like War and Peace or Fried Green Tomatoes – look elsewhere.

That said, the common thread of the three stories is ‘medical professionals’ – although the AMA might have something to say about their fairly unprofessional behaviors. But this is fantasy sex, not real life!  So if you ever wanted to play doctor with the real thing, these stories may be for you.

The first story, The Intern, stars a female doctor who’s been deeply injured by divorce. When the hot young intern comes on to her it soothes her battered self-esteem and rejuvenates her interest in sex – at least sex with him… This was not my favorite story, it felt more like therapy than romance.

Got ménage fantasies? My Doctor, My Husband and Me is your story. It’s MFM, the guys aren’t in to each other. It’s heroine Valerie is who is at the center of their fun. Definitely steamy and there’s a slight ‘maybe’ on this not being just a one-time fling. Again, the heroine is older – no teenage ingénues here.

In Seize the Doctor, heroine Nikki is in for her yearly gyn exam and finds the new doctor is the guy she met at a bar earlier. Personally? Pelvic exams are not my finest hour. The thought of dealing with sexual vibes at that time? Just EWWWW! But that’s me. The author made the fantasy work and some of the banter is very cute.

Overall? The shortness of the stories and the emphasis on the sexual interludes limits character building and plot development. Still it’s a good, light, read-once. I will give the author another try on a full-length novel.

Excerpt:
Excerpt from Playing Doctor – “Seize the Doctor”

At the door to her apartment building, they lingered and talked more while holding hands and looking into each other’s eyes. Hunter gently caressed her hand, making small swirling circles with his thumb on the soft pad of her palm. Nikki seemed as aroused as he was, her eyes dilated and her breath coming in short little pants. He very much wanted to kiss her and hoped she would let him. Nikki swayed toward him, and his arm came around to support the small of her back, gently pulling her against his body.

“May I kiss you good night?” he asked in a low, husky voice.

“Mmm, yes,” she replied, melting into him and tilting her face upward.

His heart pounding, Hunter slowly lowered his mouth to meet hers, just the gentlest sweeping touch on her lips. His breath caught in his throat as he stood wanting and needing more. Deepening the kiss, Hunter crushed her tightly to him and stroked her lips with his tongue. He was burning with desire and wondered for perhaps the hundredth time this evening if she was wearing those so-sexy underthings. Oh, how he would love to see them on her, to slowly peel them off her body and explore her with his tongue. Thinking that he was getting dangerously carried away, he started to pull back, but then Nikki parted her lips and welcomed his kiss into her mouth. Hunter pulled her even more tightly to him.

He could taste Nikki now, the subtle flavor of her mixed with the tangy beer they had consumed with dinner. The press of her breasts to his chest, her peaked nipples pressing into him, sent a shooting thrill throughout his body. His hand ached to reach up and caress her there. Before he got carried away, Hunter started to release her, but Nikki reached up and put her arms around his neck, pulling him back to her and deepening the kiss.

It felt so good, so hot. Hunter reveled in the sensations and the awareness that this gorgeous woman wanted him as much as he wanted her. His bulging erection pressed into her belly, and he could barely stop himself from rubbing it against her. Instead, he ended the kiss and stepped firmly away, feeling unstable, as if he might lose control and yank her back, and then nothing would be able to stop him from finishing what they were starting. He needed to get away quickly. He didn’t want to ruin things now.

“This was a terrific evening. Thank you,” Hunter said, turning away quickly, worried that Nikki might try to restart the kiss. Very much wanting her to do just that.

“I enjoyed it too. Bye,” Nikki responded, still leaning toward him.

“Thank you again. I’ll call you soon,” he said as he resolutely walked away.
Hunter felt young and carefree…
