Fresh on the heels of her college graduation, Cameron Heart has landed an interview at a prestigious architecture firm.
Four minutes until the interview.
She knows she’s only there because the owner, Grayson Cole, is her older sister’s friend.
Three minutes.
For the last seven years, Grayson has been the most intimidating man Cammie has ever had the pleasure, or displeasure, of being around.
Two Minutes.
But the job opportunity is too good to pass up. So, Cammie will have to ignore the fact that Grayson is handsome enough to have his own national holiday.
One.
After all, she shouldn’t feel that way about her new boss. And, he will be her new boss.
…
“I’m not scared of you,” I said with a confident smile.
“Perhaps we should fix that, Ms. Heart. Close the door.”
Greatest weakness? My inability to settle for anything less than what I deserve. I’m stubborn and persistent.
The honest answer? My inability to overcome my schoolgirl crush on you even though you’re a self-righteous ass.
I would NOT be giving him the honest answer.
REVIEW
I loved the first book, The Duet, but this one tops that.
Grey has managed to successfully mix humour (and lots of it) with great
characters and a heap of tension. Grayson has wanted Cammie Heart since she was
in high school and he’d graduated college…of course, timing being wrong and age
gap being inappropriate, he did nothing about it. (Or did he?) Fast forward
five years and she’s graduated and applying for a job with his architectural firm.
Of course she gets the job, and that’s where it gets nice and interesting.
Cammie decides, after a rather odd interview, that she’s
going to chase after what she wants, finally. I sat up all night until I’d
finished it, unable to put it down to sleep, which (unless I’m on a work
deadline) I rarely do now. Unless the book has me in its grip and I simply
can’t put it down. Cammie does things she shouldn’t, Grayson’s done things he
probably shouldn’t have. They both do things together he’s always sworn he
wouldn’t do. (and I don’t think stairwells will ever be the same!)
If you like R.S. Grey’s writing and her style of humour, you
will love The Design too. I can’t say I’ve ever met a book of hers I don’t like
(and I think there’s only one so far I haven’t read). I laughed, I cried (happy
tears, happy tears!!), I smiled like a loon.
Another five star read to add to your TBR (but bump it to
the top really, really soon!)
I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors include Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I'm a comedy geek and love all things "funny". Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.
