Ren Miller never dreamed her life would turn out quite like this.

On the cusp of qualifying for the brand new woman's UFC league, she's finally found the thing that makes her tick. She finally has a whole new life before her, but it’s one that doesn't include Ash Fuller.

No one has seen or heard from Beat's Golden Boy in six months, not even Ren. He's disappeared off the face of the earth and he's just another person who's ended up abandoning her when she needed him the most. He broke her heart, but he took the one thing that was hers. Her spirit.

When someone unexpected turns up at Beat with an ultimatum, Ren must make a decision. Go after Ash and her own heart or make her Dad's dream of winning a Championship come true.

Will Ren choose to fight?

Or sacrifice everything to save the man she loves?

Review

This has to be one of the best 'part two' books I've read. I hung on every word with Beat and it was no different with Pulse. Loved it! Amity even made me cry (and then chuckled about it, too, I might add). I hate giving spoilers, so this will be brief as the synopsis is answered a short way into the book. Though, I can happily say Ren and her dad have actually developed a father/daughter relationship in this book (Beat readers will know that it was NOT rainbows and unicorns for them when she first showed up at the Beat studio). It's also refreshing for me that Monika doesn't feature too much, because man, did she piss me off in Beat. What. A. Cow!
So, for those of you wondering where Ash went missing to, and what happened to Hammer at the end of Beat, you will just have to read Pulse. I enjoyed meeting Violet and the reaction just the mere mention of her name does to one of the Twins (aha! Not telling you more than that).
I do love the descriptions of them fighting, the way you could almost be a fly hanging off the side of the cage at The Underground and how, if you're unlucky enough, you  may even 'feel' one of those punches.
Having lived in Melbourne for a long time, it was great to read about places that I could kind of picture as the characters travelled around. All too often, I'm living vicariously overseas in a book. It's nice to come back to home turf and know where it's set. Know where abouts the zoo is, and how long the run is there and back to where Beat/Pulse are set (not a short one!).
Congratulations once again, Amity, for creating a wonderful set of characters, an intriguing world that--despite the violent nature of what they do--we just want to visit anyway.
I know that it was written as a 2-book set, but I would really like to see some more about other characters--Violet, Lincoln, Dean, Josie, Hamish and Seth. But I don't think I want to know any more about Monika. *shrug* just bein' honest!
Five Stars for sure
