COVER REVEAL!! Malaise by Max Henry

Title: Malaise
Author: Max Henry
Genre: New Adult Romance
Release Date: TBD

Final exams and end of year parties don’t seem so important at your brother’s funeral.
Two short weeks, and Meg would have survived her senior year relatively unscathed. But when her best and only friend—her brother—dies in a questionable road accident, being the loner in her year doesn’t fit as well as it used to.
One act of kindness from the man her small town isolated amidst rumors and lies, and her hope for a day where pain won’t overwhelm her doesn’t seem so far-fetched. Brett Carver is trouble with a capital T, but he’s also the only person who can get Meg to let go and smile.
Some good things are never meant to last.
Arrested for a crime he didn’t commit, the man who finally found a way to bring light back to her dark days is ripped away when she needs him most. Determined not to lose the only good thing to have come out of her year from hell, Meg sets out to prove Brett isn’t guilty. But first, she must accept the ugly truth …
… that the people who can prove his innocence are the same people who will do all it takes to keep them apart.

“Talk to me, Carver.”
He shuffles his arm so that he can stroke the hair from my face while still holding his weight. “Have you ever been kissed, Meg?”
I open my mouth to speak when he cuts me short.
“Not those stupid kisses you steal with some boy you hardly know while nobody’s looking, but a real kiss. One that you wish wouldn’t end, that you could hold on to and keep?”
I hold his gaze as I shake my head; my heart alights at the anticipation of what’s coming next. Age is only a number. What does it matter if we’re two consenting adults? I’m not naïve; I know where this leads. And I’m not scared.
I’m ready.
For him.
For us.
The bed dips as Carver rolls his body over top of mine, propping himself up on both elbows, either side of my head. Our hips connect, the weight of his body comforting as much as it’s exhilarating. His chest brushes mine with each breath.
“Truth or dare?”
“Pardon?” Isn’t he supposed to close this space between us and take what he wants?
“Truth or dare, Meg. Pick one.”
“Truth.” Always.
“The truth is,” he says slightly breathless, “is that I wished you’d said dare.” His eyes search mine and his pupils dilate. “Dare me, Meg. Don’t give me a reason to wait any longer.”

Max is the author of dark, and highly emotional romance. Her Butcher Boys series is centered around a group of ex-street kids who have teamed up with an indebted motorcycle club to take down a notorious drug lord. And her new series, the Fallen Aces MC, is a spin-off from this dark and dangerous world. Her writing has been described as 'gripping', and 'addictive', taking you on an 'emotional roller coaster ride'. Originally born and bred in New Zealand, Max now resides with her family in beautiful and sunny Queensland, Australia. Life with two young children can be hectic at times, and although she may not write as often as she would like, Max wouldn't change a thing. When she's not engrossed in her dark and twisted fictional worlds, she can be found enjoying the outdoors while 4wd-ing with her family.

Mariska “Take off your top.” He gave the low order, and I obeyed it. My top was off in an instant, and I stood before him in only my bra and panties. “Braid your hair.” Blinking, I wasn’t sure where this was going, but I pulled the length over my shoulder and without breaking our intense eye contact, I started weaving my wavy locks into a thick rope over my shoulder. “Bra.” I reached around and unfastened it. The straps tickled my hypersensitive skin as they fell down my arms. The entire garment fluttered to the floor, and his eyes broke from mine to study my body. I couldn’t breathe. Reaching out, he cupped the bottom of my breast and slid his thumb across a tightening nipple. The rough touch of his palm against my delicate skin, the circling of his thumb around my straining buds. Hungry eyes darkened as he watched my body respond to him. Heat pulsed deep between my thighs. My breath hitched then became shallow and fast. I had no idea what he’d do next. I didn’t expect him to turn and go to the bed. He climbed onto it and leaned against the headboard, eyes fixed on mine. I wanted to look down, to gaze at all of him, but I couldn’t. “Remove your panties.” His voice had changed, but it still commanded. I only hesitated a moment before catching the thin sides around my thumbs and pushing them down. Standing before him completely nude, I couldn’t stop a shiver. My arms crossed over my stomach, and I tried to cover myself. “Stop.” He spoke sharply. “Don’t cover yourself.” His eyes raked over me in a look so predatory I felt it on my skin. I looked at him as well. His powerful, lined body was tense, ready, and his erection rose up his belly. Thick and long, I shivered at the size of it. Nothing like that had ever been inside me, still I ached for it. “Come to me.” It was a lusty whisper speaking words I’d longed to hear since before I’d flown across the country. I crawled up the bed, but just as I reached his waist, he stopped me. “Do you want this?” “Yes.” My voice was only a little shaky. “I want be inside you, but first I want to be in your mouth.” Moisture pooled between my thighs. I’d never been with a man who made demands, who told me exactly what he wanted and expected me to deliver, but it only intensified my feelings for him. I leaned down to follow instructions, but he stopped me. “I want to taste you as well. I want to hear you come before I sink between your thighs.” My brow must have lined because the slightest grin softened his stern face. He pulled me against his chest, and warm breath drifted across my cheek as he spoke to me. “Beautiful Mariska.” Hands in my hair, he consumed my mouth. A moan ached from my chest and was lost in him. Strong fingers tightened against my skull, holding me forcefully, taking no prisoners. I moaned again as he pulled my lip between his teeth before pillaging my mouth once more. I held his wrists, my head light. In that moment, he pushed me back against the bed. Stunned, my eyes blinked open, and I tried to get my bearings. It was all happening so fast. He sat back on his heels and gripped my thighs, pulling my hips to his mouth. He gave me one slow, lingering look before licking his tongue from the top of my clit all the way down to my opening, wet and throbbing. “Oh, god! Stuart!” I cried, flexing my ass in his hands. I was so close, I would come for him fast. He didn’t stop, tracing his tongue back again and slowly circling that small, powerful bud. I whimpered as he repeated the figure eight pattern, circling and sucking until I saw stars.

Excerpt
My insides are boiling from my adrenaline-filled rage. I never suspected Jake really felt the way he does. Stabbing myself in the eye would feel ten times better than the pain of his words. I couldn’t believe he said that, yet I could. Jake has always been an asshole; however, this takes the cake. The moment he spoke his true inner feelings, all I saw was red. He doesn’t consider me his brother, only a stray Reggie saved. Reggie moves to my side and puts his hand on my forearm, squeezing hard enough for me to take notice. I glance up to his face, and it’s painfully obvious he was also hurt by Jake’s words. Reggie is probably internalizing it and blaming himself for this moment, but I think it’s good everything is out in the open. Jake is always quite candid when he’s drinking; I’m just surprised it took so long for the words to fall out of his mouth. However, I’m glad his true feelings are out. Now we can really move on from this night, and the night will be known as the one the Evans brothers became no more.
Reggie clears his throat, as if he’s trying to swallow down the fury that’s settled inside his body. “Jake,” he says in a quiet, deep tone, “I think it’s time to leave.”
“You’re kicking me out?” Jake is baffled. He tucks his flask back into his pocket before approaching Reggie.
“Fine, I will leave. I always knew you were a pussy. You could never stand up to her… or him, for that matter.” Jake shoulders past Reggie, snags Delilah’s arm, and walks from the garage, shouting to her to get the kids as he moves to his car and sits in the passenger seat. I stand at the threshold of the door and look at my brother. I’m really not mad anymore. I feel sorry for him. He’s defaulting to truly harmful words to make the rest of us feel as bad as he does. In fact, he’s acting like a child. Jake’s always been dramatic, so I guess I should have expected nothing less. Yet what he said is unforgettable. I’m not sure how forgiving I can be after hearing what he said. The hateful words will always be in the back of my mind. Zoe and Delilah file down the back steps with all the kids in tow. Delilah quickly ushers them to the car and straps them in as Jake continues to stare me down, taking small sips from his flask. He doesn’t know it yet, but he’s about to lose everything he has unless he has a come-to-Jesus meeting with himself and changes how he treats Delilah. If she were smart, she wouldn’t stick around for the aftermath of this night. Jake is bound to be intolerable. Delilah falls into the driver’s seat and backs away from the house as we all stand in the driveway, watching them drive off. I know Reggie feels like he’s watching his family leave for the last time. ~Drake Evans

Every lie, no matter how small, has some degree of truth. Five months after moving to New York City, Emily is engaged to Blake Carson, future doctor and the man who she believes to be the love of her life. Until she starts to realize that the foundation upon which she’s building her future is based on a series of Blake’s self-serving lies. Blake can’t let her go. He can’t continue to deceive Emily, either. But Blake’s biggest problem is that he has to maintain the life he has become accustomed to, at any cost. And that means keeping his overbearing mother happy, and keeping Emily ignorant. Tyler Carson left New York City two years ago, happy to leave behind all of the Carson family drama. Until he comes home and meets Emily. Falling in love with his brother’s fiancée was easy. Protecting her from his family was necessary. Leaving her was almost impossible, knowing that he was breaking her heart, and his own. Finding solace in her friendship with Tyler, Emily is forced to face the reality that Blake is not the man she thought he was. But neither is Tyler, the friend who gave her the clarity she needed, and then left her alone to pick up the shattered pieces of her life. Heartbroken and deserted, Emily has had enough of the Carson brothers. But sometimes, love is not that which sends us soaring, but that which keeps us grounded. Can Emily ever bring herself to love another Carson completely? Secrets, lies and lust-filled nights, all in the name of the screwed-up pursuit of happily ever after, Scared of Forever is the second novel in the Scared Series, which features characters from Scared of Beautiful, but can be read as a standalone.

Emily
Tyler offers me an absolutely angelic and innocent smile. His warm eyes silently attest to the sincerity of his words as he eyes me expectantly. He walks over to the passenger side of the Jeep and opens the door with exaggerated grandeur, sweeping a hand across his midline elegantly. “That’s a bit of a lost art,” I say as I climb up the high step into the seat, thankful that I’d opted for ballet flats and jeans. “What is?” Tyler asks as he hops into the driver’s seat. “Gentlemanly behavior. Chivalry. I don’t know when, if ever, anybody has opened my door for me,” I say, slightly ashamed that as a woman, I hadn’t demanded better treatment. “Well, strap yourself in, princess. Today is gonna be a day of amazing first times.” Tyler shoots me a cheeky grin, before turning the key in the ignition. “Is it too late to change my mind?” I laugh, playfully grabbing for the door handle. “Yup. You’re now my willing prisoner,” he says solemnly before taking off. Tyler drives us carefully out of the city. The rain clouds that had opened up above the city seem to be moving in the opposite direction now. The further away we drive, the clearer the sky becomes, the ratio of blue to grey skewing more as the road widens from narrow city streets to open country roads. “Where are we going?” I ask. The drive seems to be infinite. “Do you trust me?” Tyler asks. “Should I? I barely even know you.” “Trusting the people you know can sometimes be even worse than trusting the ones you don’t,” Tyler says quietly. “What does that mean?” I ask nervously. Does he mean Blake? Eliza? “Forget it,” Tyler says. “I don’t particularly want to ruin the day by talking about all that heavy shit. We’re nearly there.” “Why are you being so nice to someone you barely know?” I ask, looking towards Tyler, who is focusing intently on the road ahead. “Do I need a reason to be a nice guy?” He shoots me with a charming smile. His brow furrows as he averts his eyes back to the road. “You can tell me if you’re uncomfortable with any of this. We can go straight back. I’d understand, I mean, you haven’t known me all that long.” “Not at all,” I say sincerely. Fact is, I feel more comfortable and safer in Tyler’s company than I did with Blake last night. I roll the window down and inhale the salty ocean air that wafts in. Leaning forward to look past Tyler, I see, between the tall oak trees that flank the road, the vast, sapphire blue sea. The sun has even decided to make an appearance from beyond the grey, ominous clouds. “Wow,” I breathe. “Welcome to the Hamptons,” Tyler says jovially. “I thought you hated all things high society, and you decide to bring me to the summer playground of New York’s rich and famous?” I question, confused. “We’re not going to hang out with the rich and famous. Besides, it isn’t society season. The only people here now are those who actually live here,” he explains. We continue to drive, beyond the sprawling mansions with their impossibly green lawns, perfectly manicured and lined with tall evergreen fir trees. “That’s Eliza’s summer house,” Tyler says, pointing to a majestic stone mansion nestled between two long stretches of sand, and backing directly onto the white sandy beach. “Holy shit!” I exclaim. “I think that place is bigger than my whole home town!” Tyler just laughs. “I take it you’ve never been inside it then. It’s full of space and echoes.” We drive right past it, until the road becomes narrower and declines steeply, the Jeep’s tires picking up the rocks and sand from the dirt track and flinging them backwards relentlessly. Tyler handles the car amazingly well, navigating and steering carefully over the now very thin road until we arrive at a much smaller, yet still expansive, weatherboard cottage. The white framed windows look positively striking against the dark beige paint of the exterior. A picketed wraparound balcony encases the obviously abandoned house. “We’re here,” Tyler says happily. He parks the car and hops quickly from his seat, jogging around to open my door. I take a step out and stare in awe at the sight before me. The beach stretches out for miles. Immediately ahead, a makeshift fence has been created between the house and the sand from old pieces of hardwood, pickets and thin wire. The sun casts a luminous sparkle against the rising tide...

Meet Kirsty Moseleykm

Kirsty Moseley has always been a passionate reader since she was a little girl, devouring books overnight, barely sleeping and paying for it at school the next day. Writing has come similarly to her and once she discovered Wattpad, she finally plucked up the courage to post one of her stories. Seven million reads later, she self-published her debut novel THE BOY WHO SNEAKS IN MY BEDROOM WINDOW, which later became one of 10 Finalists for the 2012 Goodreads' Choice Awards, Best YA Fiction. Shocked and overwhelmed by the response, she published her second novel ALWAYS YOU a few months later.

If she had to sum herself up in one word, it would probably be 'daydreamer' - but unlike most of her school teachers, she doesn't necessarily view that as a bad thing. After all, she read somewhere once that books are like waking dreams....

She lives in Norfolk, England with her husband and son.
