When her therapist challenges her to take on skydiving, item number one on her bucket list, Kalani has to decide if she’s truly ready to take charge of her life.

It is— except one of them doesn’t make it …

Lacey Marone had two solid things on her agenda for her future — working in the Pepperoni Palace until she figured out what the hell to do with her life, and getting together with her bestie’s older brother, Quade, who she’s crushed on since she was a kid.

Mackenzie Carter has one solid thing on the agenda for her future—get out of town and focus on her post-school studies. After all, she’s wanted to be a vet since she was a little girl, and nothing, not the thought of being apart from her two best mates or the idea that maybe she’s got more-than-friendly feelings for a sexy local surfer can alter that … can it?

Graduation changes everything.

Almost three years later, and Mack’s high school dreams are just that—figments of her imagination, thanks to the guilt that haunts her on a daily basis. Will a faux relationship with Byron Leckie be the thing she needs to get her life back on track? Or will it make everything worse?

One thing is for certain. When these two collide, the damage will be fierce. After all, graduation was never meant to end like this.

Blurb

With an ex fiancé leaving her in debt, breaking up with her girlfriend and struggling to find a place she can afford, Sophie McKenna has hit an all-time low. Everyone thinks she’s a lesbian, and she likes it that way, but her estranged parents know better.

The foul-mouthed motocross mechanic, Rocco De Luca, only has his incarcerated brother left. Every day is a battle of the mind and of the bottle. Tequila and easy women soothe the pain, but they never fill the void.

Rocco doesn’t mind offering his spare room to the hot lesbian he refers to as ‘Suds’. She won’t be clingy, far from it, and he’s keen on the idea of getting to see a bit of girl on girl action.

With such volatile personalities under the same roof, and being in April and Spencer’s wedding party, they both have to learn to get along, even though they can’t stand each other.

He never thought he might actually grow to like her.

Review

I have to say that Jennifer Ryder is one author whose work I will always read. She doesn't pull any punches, she writes it as she sees it and I really love that about her books.
Switch follows on some time after the end of Strike--Spencer and April's book--and stars Rocco the mechanic for the MX boys' team, and April's best friend, Sophie, a.k.a. Suds.

I really love that there's no 'instalove' here, and they both have to work to put up with the other person when Soph moves in with Rocco after spending time on April and Spencer's couch. And what feelings do come are pushed aside due to their pasts and what each wants for their own future. She has to deal with him leaving the lid and seat up on the toilet. He has to deal with her hanging her drying lingerie up in the bathroom. Towels going missing. The aftermath of phone calls missed. 2 minute noodles. And a plethora of tequila bottles.

The characters are strong enough apart, but gain so much from each other. They have depth and feelings. There's no skimming the surface on emotions here.
I cursed each time my tablet went flat and stopped me from reading, then stayed up until I'd finished it. I really wish I had time to go back to the beginning and read the series again.
***** 5 stars for sure! *****

Excerpt

If I poke him, will it be like waking an angry bear? I’m tempted, but I won’t. That’d be a bitchy thing to do. We might be living under the same roof, but we lead separate lives. And that’s how I want it. Completely separate. Removed. His business is his, and mine is mine.

I take a step backward and step on something metal. I crouch down and pick up a spoon. I look around underneath the coffee table, and find an empty glass bowl with remnants of green an inch below the rim.

Snatching up the bowl, the cruel absence of what I was planning to eat when I got home tonight mocks me.

The motherfucker ate my jelly.

“Hey,” I bark out with a hard shove to his shoulder.

Rocco grumbles and swings his head back violently, one eye open as he searches me out. “Who the ... what the fuck?” he hisses. Rolling onto his side, he props himself up and falls back into the couch cushions and runs his fingers down his face. His dark brown, almost-black eyes drill me, as he runs his tongue over his bottom teeth. The whites of his eyes are scattered with red, and beads of sweat lace his brow and down the sides of his face. He looks like shit. More accurately, he looks like someone who greedily smashed a bottle of primo tequila last night.

“You ate my jelly,” I say, shoving the bowl towards him.

He shrugs and his lip curls to the side. “I was hungry,” he says with a challenging gaze.

“You were fucking hungry? I haven’t been here even twenty-four hours and you’re helping yourself to my food?”

He scoffs, and I want to punch him in the face.

“It’s jelly,” he says, with a roll of his eyes. “It’s like a dollar or some shit. I’ll buy a packet. Bloody hell, I’ll buy two. No need to get your fuckin’ panties in a bunch.”

He sits up and rakes his fingers back through the longer strands of dark hair on the top of his head. He slouches farther into the couch, one hand scratching at the faded black T-shirt adorning his chest, the other hand sliding between his legs and adjusting himself.

Fucking men.

“I’m not pissed about the fact it costs bugger all. I don’t touch your shit and you don’t touch mine. Got it?”

I turn on my heel, flicking my ponytail over my shoulder. I couldn’t be arsed waiting for his response. I can’t imagine I’ll like it anyway.

“Fine,” he grumbles.

“And would it kill you to put the bloody toilet seat down?” I throw at him as I walk out the door.

His laughter echoes into the stairwell, right before the door slams shut.
Arsehole.

What she doesn’t need is the complication of Mr Sexy-Brown-Eyes, who seems to be drinking more and more coffee.

She doesn’t want the questions.

She’s still trying to get her story straight.

Here and now is one of those moments I despise. I wrote my review a while ago and filed it...somewhere. I cannot find what I wrote. Being a beta reader on it too, it's been a while and many books in between since I read it and I may be a little rusty...
I honestly loved this book though, that much I can guarantee! Ryan is a hot, undercover operative who moves to Western Australia away from everything and everyone, only to come across Willow who will become his everything. Willow's there 'undercover' too, but in a different sense. Despite hitting it off, and secretly desiring more, what they're either hiding from or hiding as is stopping the forward progression. But what good story has smooth sailing for our beloved characters?? ;)
Sting is set on the other side of the country from the first three books in this series, but Jennifer's talented writing doesn't wane. The story captures and reels in the reader, sucks you into their world and the perils both Ryan and Willow face. And how Ryan becomes a dedicated gardener too...
If you are a fan of this series, then it's a no-brainer. You need to go and buy this book if you haven't already. If you're new to the world Jennifer creates, then jump on in, the water is beautiful. While there are a few character references to previous books, there isn't so outstanding that you'd be lost. If you wanted to start here then go back to the start, I really think you could. There are some series  where you'd be completely lost by starting on book 4. I honestly think Jenn has done a great job with this one that it's part of the series, but if you wanted to read this one without the others, you wouldn't get lost (it'd just give you the thirst to start from the beginning!)
I think books you can happily say you'd reread, are the ones that go on the 'winners' pile. I'd reread this whole series. With glee even.
Five stars, as always, for Jennifer Ryder's Sting.
