Review
I've mulled over this book and what else to write about it for a couple of days now. I don't like spoilers and can't think of what else to write that won't give anything away, so I'll stick with what I wrote after reading it...
Um. I’m stumped as to what to say about Stay. I’m still
mopping up tears and contaminating tissues with my snot. Without giving
anything away, what can I tell you?
We get the basics of the story from the blurb, ten-year-old Fallyn
is taken from her home by the hitman who killed her family, and grows up with
him. In public, he acts as her father as she plays his (lost in reality)
daughter. She only feels calm in his presence; her nightmares can only be
calmed by him. She slowly develops feelings for him as she matures and grows.
But of course it’s far more complex than that.
Despite our hero being unconventional, he really is a hero.
For me, he’s more of a hero for saving a little girl from the life she was
being subjected to before he walked into it.
Chelsea gives two endings, too—after years of living as
Angelina, the reader gets to choose the path the main character takes in the
end. Does she live her life as Angelina? Or as Fallyn? It’s up to you.
I’d recommend reading Stay, but don’t go in with
any preconceived notions of what it will go on. Keep an open mind. And the
tissues handy.
